Questions the desk is often asked
Papers received during business hours are registered on the same working day. Papers received after 17:30 or at a weekend are registered on the next working morning. Once registered, the paper is given a folio number and placed on the appropriate desk, and the sender receives a short confirmation quoting that folio number. If a paper arrives incomplete, the confirmation lists exactly what is outstanding.
A telephone call can open a correction and hold it provisionally, but the register is not altered until the instruction is confirmed in writing with supporting evidence. This rule protects both the investor and the practice. If a correction is urgent, send the written confirmation by email and mark the subject line as urgent, then telephone the desk to say the confirmation has been sent.
Visits are arranged at the City Road office by prior appointment so that the relevant desk is staffed. The filing room is a working room, and the rail, the dividend tray and the drawer board are visible to visitors as part of the appointment.
